upper a-arm bushing questions! 120-130 1967

Last June or July, I rebuilt my front end with all new bushings, ball joints, etc. They were all rubber factory bushings. Today, while puttering around installing new horns, I noticed my upper a-arm bushings were bulging, and had small cracks around the edges. The rubber seems plyable still, unlike the hard crusty ones they replaced. Anyone have any ideas what is going on? I installed them with just water, if I recall correctly, and they were properly torqued down. Am I going to have to replace these again? Should I have used urethane bushings? I'm at a total loss here, folks.
I took 3-4 digital pictures, but I can't get them small enough to post here. If someone would like to see them, send me an e-mail, and I'll shoot them your way. (They are about 600KB each, and very clear)

Thanks!
