Coolant leak near front crank seal 900

My wife's 96 960 B6304 engine has a coolant leak which appears to be right near where the engine components of the oil filter assy are attached to the engine. this is right near the top of the oil pan section of the engine. I can't seem to get seepage now that I've got the timing cover & rock shield off, but as best as I can see, the leak may be at a small oblong cover about 3-4 inches long, mounted horizontally with 2 screws to the oil pan section.

I am going to change the coolant and the oil, so I may just take the little cover loose to see what comes out. Does anyone know if this little cover is covering some part of the coolant circuit?

I can see no evidence of leakage at all in the vicinity of the water pump, nor the radiator.
