Catalytic converter weld 700

Was driving the other day & all of a sudden I heard a no muffler type of sound & when I got home I looked and the pipe connected to the catalytic converter came off. Actually I had the same problem last year when I got a new "cat" I took it back & I was told whoever welded it did a crummy job. Now the place is out of biz, it's a holiday weekend & I need to use the car a little. I know people use coathangers when their tailpipes are dragging, though I can't really find a strong anchor to attach it to. I think it might work if I use duct tape to hold it and/or attach it to the area of the broken weld. I'm wondering though if there is any danger in driving for instance if there is a spark. as I don't know if there is any relationship between the catalytic converter & the gas tank. Any help appreciated..
