Remote Starter 700

I've got a remote starter that also works the door locks in my '86 745. Mine was made specifically for a standard transmission. Most models on the market are designed expressly for automatics. The brand I'm using is a DesignTech international, their website is designtech-intl.com. I am not affiliated with them, and I'm very happy with the product.

I used a Haynes manual and my mulitmeter to install it. It wasn't my first, and won't be my last- remote starters are very handy in turbos as you can also use this model as a turbo timer. You can trigger the system when you park, remove the key with the motor still running, and then either remotely turn the motor off later or let it run for ten minutes and it will shut itself down.

This is very reliable- an antenna included with the kit gives me more than 200 feet of range. The cost was something like $130-$150 for the kit. Most installers would charge half a day's labor for installing on a Volvo, and tapping into the door lock system. This would also require an additional actuator for the driver's door to make the door lock system work.

If you decide to install one yourself designtech has a great website with lots of wiring help, as well as a good 800 tech line. You can also email me directly with any questions.
