need new in-tank pump 700 1987

Does anyone know if the in-tank fuel pump in a 87 745 turbo is interchangeable with any other american car? I was thinking that it might since the pump is made by AC delco... I already priced it on the usual volvo web sites and I know I can buy a new one for around $60. I am hoping that I can get it for less if it's used in a cheaper american car... (like the heater fan)

By the way, my car seems to be running just fine without the in-tank pump? I just fitted a length of fuel hose to the end of the pipe that the in-tank pump is normally attached to... with the non-working in-tank pump in place the main pump was making a lot of noise, and with the fuel hose only it is nice and quiet.

BTW - I live in Los Angeles and I went to my favorite pick-a-part yard and found that none of their cars had a fuel tank? When I asked about it, I was told that they are required by law to remove the fuel tanks before the cars are placed in the yard. The tanks are emptied out and crushed with the fuel senders and pumps in them...

Thanks,
JJ
