Speedometer cable troubles 200 1981

I have an 81' 245 Glt with a broken speedo cable and i have diconected all of it except from the tranny. The problem i am having is where the speedo cable mounts to the tranny on the little round wheel, i have disc. the cable mounting bracket that was held on with the hex nut and now i can't get the cable end off of the round disc that it mounts up to. when i turn the end of the cable to detach it from the tranny the round wheel spins also so i make no progress. what shouls i do? Any help would be great. Thanks alot.
