Replacing the air intake box with a cannister filter. 200

I recently scored a 45 degree air intake hose for a 240 from a pikNpull. The idea is to replace the whole air intake box with this hose plus a cannister filter ( a la Riceburner) from PepGuys, etc.
According to "Swedespeed" this will give my 83 245 a "deep growl"..call me a skeptic, but I don't see how intake will change the sound of the exhaust (BUT then my students call me a skeptic when I tell them that Anna Nicol Smith really did marry that 90 year old, wheel chair bound billionaire for love, not money).
should I leave well enough alone?
