FPR, on the right track still??? 700 1985

The problems I've been having with my car are getting worse.

First it was getting poor fuel consumption, then I started noticing it smelling rich, then the black soot on the plugs.
Then it started to hesitate at times when I put my foot down, not all the time though.
Now in the last few days it's worse, and when taking it out to go down to the shops, it died just as I left the driveway, and now won't start.

It feels like it's going to start, then just dies, so I know there is spark, I'm thinking it may have actually flooded, cause that is what it feels like.

Of course I could be wrong, so that's why I'm looking for advice, I was planing to replace the FPR on thursday/friday, do you think I'm still on the right track???
