Electric Fan Turns on Every Minute or Two 900 1997

Recently I have noticed that the electric fan on my 97 960 cycles on frequently. The weather is warmer but certainly not hot--still the fan comes on every minute or two when driving around town. While at idle the fan will kick on every minute or two and while I am driving I notice it cycles on as well. It doesn't seem like normal behavior and none of my previous Volvo's seemed to have this problem. Temp gauge is right in the middle (normal) and this issue is the same with or without AC.

Does this sound normal?
