I replaced the headlight bulbs in my '91 740 with a pair from Walmart. GE or Sylvania, I think. Worked fine, so detectable mismatch.

Some years back, I tried 100 Watt bulbs. Yes, they were brighter, but they also burned out the contacts in the sockets (higher current). So I had to also replace the headlight sockets. Then I went back to stock bulbs.

I recommend staying with the stock bulbs.
