220 engine oddities 120-130

Hello all,
In previous posts I have inquired about the normalcy of engine vibrations, loosing bolts and starter motor deaths, etc.
My B20 is a 2.2 liter with torque cam, header, balanced to 1/2 gram, etc. It has 20,000 miles on it, and it seem that every long trip results in the starter or alternator getting smoked. The trip out to Portland for IPD resulted in both getting cooked. The starter still works, but the investigation of strange noises revealed that the solenoid screws were missing!
The overdrive tranny is coming this month, which I hope helps, but with everything out of the car is there anything else I should look into? I don;t want to start every trip by packing a spare starter and alternator, albiet I can change them on the side of the road in 15 minutes now :)

-Erik
