What do want to accomplish with these additives? Better mileage, won't happen, more power, a myth, longer engine life, bullcrap. Today's high quality gasoline products sold by the brandnames contain any needed additives. All those small plastic and metal containers lining the shelves in the auto parts stores containing this and that (injector cleaner is a favorite) are useless products intended only to remove cash from your pocket. The good news is that they really cannot do any harm to a car.
People who say they put this or that into the gas or oil and it made then go faster or increased mpg, extended valve life (and the list goes on) are deluded. I call it the "clean car syndrome" which is that phenomina whereby a clean car just out of the car wash always seems to run better. We all know it's only in our head,.... don't we?
Perhaps a decade or two ago when fuel injection was coming in there may have been a use for an additive until the mainline gasoline suppliers and the manufacturers got in sync but not now. Injectors today just don't clog up or need any attention at all despite what the purveyers of these various snake oils want you to believe.
Save your time and money, use good gas and oil and mechanically maintain your Volvo properly. The one marketing hype program that I may agree with is the use of synthetic engine oils. Volvo actually started to make mildly positive statements on this subject some years ago, while still they firmly recommend against the use oil and gas additives.
