Stalling problem fixed on 1990 745 turbo FYI 700

Last Friday while on my way into the office my 90 745 turbo hicupped at freeway speed then died. I was able to restart immediately but experienced the same problem within a mile. I had the car towed to my faithful indy. He was unable to remanifest the problem so we changed the in tank fuel pump and fuel relay. After this work we both went for a test drive and low and behold the car stalled. He determine that there was no spark while cranking the engine. He then placed a wet rag on the coil, thinking it was overheating. The car restarted but stalled again. This time he put a wet rag on the crank shaft sensor and voila she fired right up. We were then able to limp back to the shop by cooling the crank shaft sensor with water every time it stalled. We replaced the crank shaft sensor as well as the cap and rotor just for good measure. Now my trusty wagon is running better then ever. So remember always carry a bottle of water in your car for just such an emergency. I hope this tale helps someone else with same problem.

Aloha,
Mike H
