Girling brakes on 1990 GLE ? 700

I tried to post earlier..

Anyway, I recently replaced driver's side brake pads, no problem.

On the passenger side, different story... The caliper would not align with the mounting bolts with the new (thicker) pads on. I tried with both caliper bolts off, and with just the top bolt loose, but the damn thing would not slide over the pads and mount correctly.

Yes, they are the correct pads, installed correctly!

I've done this job when I first got the car, so something is screwy.

When I try to push down the caliper over the pads, with the top bolt loose, if the caliper is over the pads, it comes down so that the bottom mounting hole of caliper is moved outboard (toward outside of car)and will not go over the caliper mount lower bolt/hole. Could the caliper mount be bent? Could the caliper itself have something bent?

In looking at the mounting holes for caliper bolts, there are rubber sleeves around the hole/bolts, but they do not seem to slide, or turn. I don't want to put too much pressure on the nuts though.

I've taken off the mount and the rotor, and dremeled all rust and corrosion, I thought there might be something in the way, but no dice.

I hate to just throw money at this, but I'm about ready to buy a caliper mount and caliper. I don't think you can safely bang on these brake parts with ball peen to get them to fit!

any ideas?
