When you say "stopped", do you mean engine not running?
Either way, it does not sound like clutch.

When it goes into second, is the shifter tight against the left end of the neutral gate?

If so, try pulling up the boot and loosening the stop block to let the shifter come closer to your leg. If the shifter is constrained, but not on the stop block, check your transmission mount and your motor mounts.
