Safe to wire AC 'on' permanently? 700 1987

My AC clutch got toasted last weekend while driving 85mph for about two hours. The air suddenly got warm, and when I pulled over, the smell of burning clutch... The clutch was slipping, turning slowly but failing to lockup. Today I sprayed electronic solvent all over the pulley, and moved the wiring about, checked grounds. Now it will engage, however when it disengages while above 2500rpm, it slips and won't engage unless I drop the rpms to 1500rpm....
SO, I'm thinking about hotwiring the AC clutch to be ON all the time. I have Climate control. Is there a danger of the system going overpressure? I need to get this fixed before another high speed trip in 100+ temps.
