Why is it making a grinding noise?? 700

Hey guys,

Wonder if you can offer me any advice. I have a 1988 740Ti sedan, M46 manual trans with 194000 miles on the clock. (England, UK). When it has three or more people in the car it makes a horrid grinding noise from what appears to be underneath towards the middle of the front seats. It only happens on acceleration and when three or more people are in the car. I've checked the mudflaps aren't scraping on the ground and thats been confirmed, had my sister follow me to make sure. My dad said something about it being the handbrake cable? Could it be? Or is it something else? Its driving me up the wall especially as I've gotta take 4 people on a 600 mile round trip at the end of the month!

Any help is massively appreciated. Other than that, its a brill car!

Regards

Paul F aka Bigun.
