fuel gauge is there more 200

The fuel gauge stoped working. I was wondering if there is some other thing that could be wrong.

Does the sending unit in the tank direct hook up to the gas gauge or is there something inbetween the sending unit and gas gauge?

Does it have a ground for the sending unit?

Most likly the sending unit is bad, but was wondering if something else could be looked at first.
