radiator fan always on, but clutch is not seized 700

The radiator fan on my '86 760T used not to run until the engine warmed up. I imagine the fan would not run either with the car at speed (air rushing past and cooling radiator). Now the fan runs as soon as I start the engine. I iamgine it continues to run with the car at speed. At least, I think I hear the fan roar particularly when accelerating. I took out the fan clutch and it is not seized. Rather, it turns with resistance, but I cannot tell whether this is too much resistance. It seems that the fan clutch can be opened like a clam by taking out some screws. Should I open it and service it some way? Please, advise on how to proceed. Thank you.
