Spark plugs & wires ~ opinions? 900

How do you know when it's time to change out the spark plug wires?
I notice the IPD catalogue says they last around 30k miles. I've put 5k onto the car which I bought last year, and have no idea when the Bougicord spark plug wires were changed.

Is it just a matter of waiting for problems?

Also can someone clue me in on the difference between 'resistor' plugs and regular plugs? I notice they sell both types. I have a 95 940 Turbo.

Is the Volvo plug the way to go.... or does NKG offer any advantages?

Thanks!
