Gear in front sear jumped 200 1988

I've bought this 240 in excelent condition, except for a few minors. The one that really bugs me is the driver seat. The bottom is fine, but it is as if the back tilt adjust mechanism has jumped a gear on one side. I can't see any bent parts, and it is in such a good condition that I don't want to risk breaking it in an attempt to remove the adjuster knob. Any help how I remove the knob? I guess the fix would involve only pulling the adjuster rod, correcting the angle, and pushing the rod back in.

Thanks
Niel
