700 Series Girling Calipers 700 1988

Greetings fellow Brickboarders, (first time post)
A few months ago I purchased a 1988 780. I set it aside, waiting for some nice spring weather before I started wrenching on it. Well, living in the northeast US, it looks like nice weather may never happen. That being said, I'll get to my question. The chilton's manual I have says to 'always install a new caliper bolt' when replacing brake pads on a 700 series. I wonder if anyone knows why this would be necessary? My parts guy found a listing, 14.00 each per wheel, but none available at warehouses, and the guys at the dealer's said 'we never do (install new)'. So unless they're stripped or cross-threaded I probably won't. But was still curious as to why.
