No Start, How come? 200 1981

Hey guys, another stranded volvo user! My devotion to my car is beginning to waver as I get on my bicycle for the 15 km ride to work and the same distance home. Here's what happened:

I started my car as usual, it turned over, started and then stumbled to death.
initally i believed it was my fuel pump relay, so i tried to solder it, then i replaced it with a brand new one, and it still doesnt start. Im not sure if there is fuel making it to the injectors, there is fuel at the fuel filter though, i know this because i replaced that as well and i didnt tighten it enough...
There is a spark at the distributor, so the coil is good ?
I dont know if there is spark at the plug, i am working alone on this so i dont know how to check.

previously however if this helps debug my problem, some days i would start my car and it would either start and die, then start again fine. or start and take a while before the gas pedal had an immediate effect: ie. push pedal, wait, get rev.

TIA
