'78 264 running hot 200 1978

I recently bought a 1978 264 GL (manual). It runs great, but always runs hot. I often have to turn on the heater full blast to get it back down under the red zone, particularly on hot days. Filling with coolant has not helped. I've been told that I probably need either a new radiator, a new thermostat, or a new water pump. Also, it has been suggested that I just bypass the thermostat altogether.

I'm not incredibly mechanically-savvy, but do have a "Chiltons"-type guide and can do basic repair/maintenance. It doesn't seem that replacing the radiator is all that difficult, but the thermostat looks very hard to access.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?
