Cured one rattle for another 900 1993

I was feeling very pleased with myself when I discovered the source of a long running, annoying rattle from the back of the 1993 960.
When changing rear brake pads and hoses (remove hose bracket for access!) I noticed that a metal "nut" had fallen out of the spring and was loose at the bottom of the suspension arm. I placed it back in the spring coils in what looked like the right position, comparing it to the other side.
Well, the first rattle is gone but is now replaced by an intermittent "sprong". It sounds like the spring assist "nut" is too tight in the coils. Is there a specific placement for this nut?

Thanks again,

Dan
