Oil drips out the breather pipe on B16B 444-544

About 2 or 3 drops of oil per minute comes out the breather pipe when the B16 engine in my 59 544 is running. The engine has good compression, about 140 psi in each cylinder. Can anyone suggest a solution? The front plate above the fuel pump on the left side of the engine is where the breather pipe is bolted in before it descends down next to the oil pan. That plate has something like a shield which seems toprotect the vents into the chamber where the pipe enters. That shield can be above the vents, or the plate can be reversed so that it is below the vents. Which way is it supposed to be? I've had it above. Can that be my problem. I don't have a manual. Thanks for any help.
