Workin the bugs out after an engine swap 200 1978

Long time listener- first time poster.

I sold my 142 last month and discovered that the 245 I bought to replace it had a seized motor...
Long story of pain agony and head-banging deleted for bandwidth.
I aquired a '76 242 as a donor for the replacement motor.

General foolishness omitted, but I have to admit that I haven't heard it run yet and do not yet have "the book" on the car yet- (have a loaner copy of the Bentley 240 volvo series book coming in)

Got the motor and tranny in and hooked up.
It turns over, but that's about it.

Got a few issues that horse sense can't seem to solve:
(sorry if this is old news- it's my first 240)

I'm getting fuel, but no spark.

I've got the fuel pump relay jumpered at the moment, as it seems to be bad- Could this be causing the no-spark condition?

The coil seems to be fine.
I'm going to swap out the hall-effect pickup in the distributor.
The ignition module (black box) is a complete mystery to me- is there a FAQ on these things?
Anything I can watch for or bench-test?

Also: The drive shaft splines are not interchangable (Hey, It was a surprise to me)- so I got the old forward section back in and the hole-pattern is not the same between the tailshaft of the tranny and the first section of driveshaft.

What's the accepted practice here? Can I take that big nut off and change the adaptor, or is it wiser to take the sectuions down to Napa and see if they'll let me mix & match U-joints? 3rd option take it to the machine shop.

Joe
