cold start problem 200 1992

ive scoured the FAQs and searched previous posts unsuccessfully. my problem is that in the mornings when i go to start my 240 wgn, it will turn over and turn over for 15 seconds. then i stop, repeat over and over again. usually on about the 6th-7th try, it will just start up and be fine. The first check i was going to do was to take off a spark plug wire and see if the engine is getting spark while trying to turn over, and then go from there. any suggestions on how else to diagnose this problem? also, once it starts, there is no hesitating or stalling, it runs perfectly once it starts. usually in the evenings after sitting in my work parking lot all day it starts a little sooner but gives me problems. if i start it an hour or two after driving, it starts up just fine.

thanks!
