Broken key syndrome/Battery draining after new coil added 1800 1969

I just purchased an 1800 from a somewhat unscrupilous character (he fibbed a lot). The key was broken off and he added an extra ignition with a crossover wire (hot)to the origional which had the broken key in the on position.
I removed the old ignition/coil, added a new coil and ran the crossover wire to the hot side of the new coil. I installed a new battery and everything works fine, car starts, etc., except the battery drains after a few days of non-use.
Since I just got the car, I don't know if the battery drained in the past or if what I did with the new coil is related. I'm sure some of you Volvo veterans have been here before, any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
