Shift lever disassembly 700

Anyone out there ever disassembled their manual transmission shift lever? I need to replace the strap for the reverse lockout collar. Inspection shows only what appears to be a rubber "bolt" connecting the outer chrome lever to the inner lever. Is this simply what it looks like, a rubber bushing that presses out to release the two pieces? Just hate breaking things through ignorance. Oh, the car's an 87 745GLE.
