Factory Radio 700 1988

I just recently bought my Volvo and I started having problems with the factory radio like a day afterwards. My intentions were to install my CD player in there instead since that one is completely fried. My question to anyone is....have the wiring to the radios changed a lot since 1988, or would I have to buy and adapter to install it? I tried to wired it myself (using the color of the wires), but I had no luck in getting the CD player to work. Can anyone help me??
