Where is the 'pump' in an automatic transmission? 200 1986

I screwed up installing an aw71 automatic transmision in my Volvo 240. The torque converter was not lined up properly and the notches on it were not engaged properly. They say I damaged the "pump". Which part it the pump? Is it the piece located right inside the bellhousing? Can I just replace the pump from another transmission that has otherwise gone bad and salvage the transmission I just screwed up?

Thanks,
Chris
