95 940 idle jump 900

My 95 (B230FD) exhibits a transitory problem that occurs randomly, however usually at idle. The symptoms are an increase in RPM of about 2000 RPM at any speed, or in park. It has happened virtually every time it is driven and my wife now refuses to drive it now. Also, when hot, it does not start reliably...quite often it takes 20 min. of cool down to get it back to starting. It has been known to run very rough after one of the non-start bouts when it finally is started. I tried cleaning the "throttle plate" with spray cleaner to no avail. The error codes were 121 and 113 which indicate a low/high fuel pressure and Mass Air Flow sensor in the Bosch system. I tried disconnecting the cable to the MAF and it ran poorly. It also came back on line when reconnected. I’m stumped but I now think it is a fuel issue. My Volvo mechanic is stumped and needs to "see the car" (a euphemism for give me $300)! Any thoughts from the experts?
