U-Joints, Drive shaft flex disk, and other fun stuff 200 1987

Since i'm only home for two more weeks, it's high time i started working on getting the car to pass inspection. I'm still working on getting the ball joint off, but that's not what this is about. . .

the other item to fix is the drive shaft flex disk. I took out all the bolts just to find that part of the driveshaft extends through the disk. I can't see any way to get this one out and the new one in without removing the driveshaft. I was thinking about removing (and probably changing) the first u-joint in order to slide the driveshaft enough to gain clearance. Will this work? Is there any other way?
