I posted a few weeks ago about my wife's '91 744T which sat noticeably lower on the driver's side than the passenger's side. And before anyone brings it up, my wife and I are not small people (she's 5'8, 150 lbs, I'm 6'4, 225 lbs), but we're certainly not obese. Several posters suggested that the springs were worn out (the car has a bit over 200K on it). The shocks and struts are Boge Turbo Gas, less than a year old. All the front bushings are new within the last year, and the car has a set of IPD sway bars on it, a bit over a year old, and a fairly new matched set of 205/60-15s on Draco wheels.
I ordered new Scan Tech springs for the front and rear, specifying the "cargo coils" for the rear, as the rear of the car has always sat too low for my taste. After installation of the new springs, I measured the distance from the surface of the pavement to the top of the wheel well at each corner of the car. Here are the numbers:
LF 26-1/2"
RF 27-1/4"
LR 25-1/8"
RR 25-3/4"
Still 3/4" lower on the driver's side at the front of the car, and 5/8" lower at the rear. Upon driving the car, however, I discovered a driveline vibration upon starting from a stop that had not been present before. My daughter's 944T had previously experienced this, thought to be the splined driveshaft compressing all the way as the rear of the car dropped on acceleration. I procured a set of 740 wagon springs from the junkyard and installed them on the rear. Driveline vibration now gone. New measurements:
LF 26-1/4"
RF 26-7/8"
LR 26-3/4"
RR 27-1/8"
Bias reduced to 5/8" at front of car, 3/8" at rear, rear end raised average of 1-1/2". The "cargo coils" I installed and then removed are Scan Tech part number 30-7665. I certainly can't recommend these as replacement springs to correct a ride height issue, or any other reason for that matter. Anybody want 'em? Free, but you pay the shipping. And the car still sits lower on the driver's side. Comments, questions, suggestions?
