I posted a message a few weeks ago about an installation of Bilstein Touring shocks and other misc. parts on my 87 740T. Installation outcome is that the strut mount bearings now catch and ratchet as the spring is rotated. I can feel this when the car is sitting and I reach up inside and twist the springs. Same problem both sides. I didn't do the install. After looking at diagrams, postings and driving the car etc, I think the bearing lubrication might have been overlooked.
In that general area, just the strut insert, the bearing and the rubber spring support were replaced during this installation. I believe the bearings were installed directly out of the package without any additional lubrication. As they come out of the package, they appear to be a sealed style and one could get the impression they are permantely lubricated. After reading the posts and FAQ's, some mention of greasing and lubrication prior to installation is mentioned.
Has anyone installed these "dry". Does the Volvo chassis manual mention any type of lubrication requirements for just the bearings? What type of lubrication would you recommend that might also work with the rubber spring insolators directly under the bearing plate? I believe the bearing will snap apart for lubrication. The front end shop is willing to redo this, but is talking about a dry type lubrication. (Just a note, the strut mount is original, just the bearing was replaced).
