crap...brakes and back firing...since when are they related? 200

last night i was driving around when all of the sudden the brake pedal got stiff. as if the car wasnt running...i could brake but not very good. i pull on to another street to park it when all the sudden the car dies. i start it back up and it starts back firing all to hell. i decide to limp it home since i had a little brake and it was somewhat late. so backfiring all the way home...when id press the brakes hard the car would die. after a few turns it would start back up again.
everything seemed to be running alright when i wasnt pressing the brake and just crusing along. oil, temp, boost looked alright. when id slow down to an idle it would back fire a bunch the oil and boost would act erratic.

this morning i went to the flame trap...it was wet and smelled like gas (yet clean). thought id post first before i get to digging.

more info needed?

this is my 244t. (non ic, im looking for one by the way)

thanks a bunch,
josh
