Over drive engagment problems 120-130

Hello on my 65 122s I was having problems with the overdrive(od). When cold everthing was fine, when hot no od(after about 10-15 miles). To get through the summer I decided to change the oil and clean the screen to see if this would help.
I put 20w50 in and started it up yo see if all was well(still on hte hoist), I ran up through the gears and shifted into od seemed to work(hard to tell with no resistance). I topped up the tranny again and put it down on the groung and went for a drive. Now I have no od whatsoever.
Is the oil to thick?
Would running with no resistance cause a problem?
Could a loose bit of silicone used to seal the plate on the bottom of the od be the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Yvan
