When stopped, should the car be left in neutral, or clutch in and hold it in 1st? 200 1980

Just curious how those of us with a stick handle stop signs, red lights, etc...

I've heard some people say that when at a complete stop, you should stay off the clutch and keep it in neutral. Others say that holding the clutch in with the car in 1st doesn't have any effect.

I myself hold the clutch in and keep it in 1st.

What's the consensus?
