240 Manual Sunroof Repair (?) 200

Hello,

I have had my 1992 Volvo 240 sedan for about 6 months. Everything has gone well except for the sunroof has decided to malfunction.

Today I tried to close it and after it was about half-way closed the crank made funny "cranking" noises, where it sounded as if the crank teeth had worn down and could not grip. However, upon closer inspection the crank teeth were fine and it was snuggly in place (not loose).

My father, being the poor mechanic he is, used brute force to try and close it - making matters worse. Now, the crank always seems to "slip" and downright is impossible to move past 3/4 closed. He probably did more damage to it.

The cables look like cables... I'm not sure how they're supposed to look. The gaskets look worn but don't seem to cause any problem.

What could be the problem? Is it something I could fix or no? I'm quite desperate to fix it...

Thank you very much,
Katherine "Gavroche"
