Here We Go Again: More Cooked Engines

Summer is here and we're noticing a few more cooling system accidents and failures. If you haven't read the FAQ section on "Catastrophic Loss of Coolant" in the Cooling System section, please look it up. There you will find that the number one reason Volvos go to the bone yard is cooling system failures. And you will also find that every part of the cooling system, from radiator to hoses to water valve to expansion tank, is a "wear item" with a finite life of no more than about eight or nine years. After that, you are living on prayers each morning, hoping that it won't blow up that day. A new radiator is only about $200, complete hoses only about $70, and a water valve only $15 from an aftermarket source like FCP, IPD, or RPR. Cheap insurance.
