Fuel Pump or Alternator or Tune Up..Go Figure...Please 700

For the past four weeks, my car has decelerated while driving to the point of stopping all together. It immediately starts back up without hesitation. Then, a couple of weeks ago my car would not start. I got it jump started, then got a new battery for it at Sears.

Yesterday, my car was completely dead. I had it jump started and proceeded to my mechanic. The mechanic has not figured anything out.

I haven't had a tune-up in several years. The car is a 1987, 740 GLE, and at 100,000 miles. I purchased it used 2.5 years ago. At that time it was at 79,000 miles. Could it be in need of a tune up, fuel pump or alternator? Any ideas on what it could be.

As always, thanks for your help. Jennifer
