AC circuit fuse blowing... 700 1987

Here's the story:

I had struts and other front end suspension work done toward the end of last summer. Up to that point, never had a problem with my AC. Five minutes after leaving the shop, the AC circuit fuse blows. Replace it and fuse blows again, this time after 2-3 minutes. I went back to the shop that did the suspension work and tell them the story. They check everything they did and claim they didn't go near any wiring, which makes some sense. This is a pretty reputable shop anyhow. So I determine it's just a wierd coincidence or something. It's getting cool outside anyway, so I just leave it for the time being. Fast forward through the winter and spring...

A month or two ago I tried to trace the wiring around, not finding anything obvious but then again I may not be looking in all the right places. So I took a chance and installed an auto-resetting circuit breaker (rather than a fuse) in the fuse panel, and tried again... It worked for a while, then one day I get that funky compressor-clutch-burning smell. Turns out either the clutch or the compressor is toast (probably from the circuit breaker), so I replaced the whole assembly with a good one from a salvage yard. I took it to local AC shop, they vaccuum the system, replace seals, install the new compressor, recharge the system, and everything seems hunky dorey now. (The freon was pretty low when they went to discharge the system, so I assumed maybe it had just gotten so low the old compressor fried and that's what was tripping the circuit. Compressor overheating or whatever.)

Anyway, the new system seemed to work fine, held the charge, no leaks detected. Cooling great (way better than before), until I left the shop. TWO MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, THE CIRCUIT TRIPS AGAIN.

What's the deal with this thing? I know it's not anything else on the same circuit (blinkers, windows, heating/cooling fan motor, etc) because it only trips when the compressor is running. I'm guessing a short or bad connection somewhere? Bad ground? Some sensor gone bad? I've just run out of places to look!

Any help/advice/tips/things to look for are much appreciated!
