how to paint? 200

The most important thing you need is an enclosed space eg. garage, so that dust, bugs etc. don't get stuck on.

Can you paint it yourself? Of course you can, but what is it going to look like in the end. And will it be acceptable to you?

Myself, I have an '80 and don't care if it is not a volvo color. I had a 145 green volvo that was showing rust. Decided it would look better in green only. So bought some Tremclad green ($30), a few foam trim brushes ($5) and went at it. I was happy with the result and the cost and since I had plenty of paint left over, touch-ups were simple.

A few years passed, scrapped the 145, later acquired my red '80 volvo. A few years later, it started showing rust. I had some green paint left, so now my '80 is Tremclad green. I expect to be repainting this summer (green's a bit faded). But this time I'll add a clear coat.

Anyhow, if you're going to do it, get the foam trim brushes that are for oil. The glue on the others tends to dissolve causing the foam to fall off the roller.
