I recently been trouble shooting a steering wander and vibration in a 85 240DL. I thought the rear axle bering was worn out.

It turns out that the front wheel bering was loose and causing the car to wander amlesly from side to side. The vibration from this front wheel bering felt like it was coming from the rear of the car-WEIRD A'!

Just wanted to post what I found and MAN O MAN is it weird.
