Question/Comment 900

I bought a set of these (with stainless cross tubes), but to my chagrin found that the rain gutters on my 965 ('96 model) are narrow and tilted in slightly so when the mounts are secured, they tilt inward enough that the cross tubes will not go through the mounts.

If I mount the mounts on the tubes first, the mounts won't sit in the gutters properly (they don't touch the bottom of the gutters and the locking clips and their eye bolts interfere with the retaining screws that hold the clips close to the brackets).

The last problem is that the doors fit the door openings so perfectly on my car (equally gapped on top/bottom and front/rear) that if I attempt to mount the Quick-N-Easys above the doors, they interfere with opening and closing the doors.

So...check the brackets to your gutters before you buy them if you can.

One possible solution is removing the tube adapters from the brackets and use flat cross bars that are contoured where they mount to the brackets to allow for their inward "cant." I am going to try 1/8" X 1" steel strapping (bent upward at each end to match the bracket angle) with 1" X 2" wood slats (2" shorter than the steel) screwed to the strapping for rigidity. This still leaves the door/clip interference problem, of course.
