Squeaking Koni Shocks 120-130 1966

Hi all,
I've got a pair of flaky-red koni 'special-D' shocks in the front of my '66 122. They recently started squeaking whenever, well, whenever they're in use. The car doesn't squeak (or dampen bumps!) with them out, so I'm sure it's the shocks. Would it be a bad idea to try oiling the shafts on these shocks? Is this going to help, or they probably on their way out?

Also, as they get older, should I expect to have to stiffen them up a bit? How do I adjust these anyway?

I'm trying to gradually eliminate all the funky sounds my old volvo makes, and this ones the next on the list! The previous one was a little groan or grumble that I couldn't pin down for the longest time. Thought it was something mechanical wearing out, turns out it was just the vibration from the engine causing the left-front grille to vibrate and rub against the body. Never did it when I was outside the car staring at the grill of course. The next one on the list is the whirring noise near or in he diff whenever I accelerate a bit (more noticable in higher gears). Any ideas on this one?

Thanks again for past and future help!
