Speedometer problems 200 1990

I have an intermitten spedometer (and odometer) on my 'new' 90 240. When it isn't working, a light tap on the dash brings it to life, for a while anyway. It is acting much like a bad connection, so today I removed the cluster and cleaned all the contacts and no help. I have seen a lot of information on gear problems and how to fix them. I didn't totally dismantle the spedometer, but what I coud see of the gears they looked fine. Besides I can't imagine a stripped gear being intermittent.

I have another cluster from the local PNP that I can try to install. It is te same code, K10042, but is from an earlier model year and does not have the service light reset gear/switch. Is there any problem installing it in my '90 other than I add 40,000 miles to it?
Thnks,
Dan
