Is impact wrench O.K. to tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt? 900 1993

Hi, I have a '93 B230F engine on a 940 wagon.

I wonder whether an impact wrench is O.K. to tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt. The mechanic shop manager said that they can set both the torque and then angle to tighten the bolt properly.

If any of you knows that for a fact, or has access to Volvo manuals/service bulletins, I would appreciate any info. Since my bolt came loose just 7 months after the timing belt replacement, I'm suspecting that the mechanic did something wrong. The manager says they use an impact wrench. Go figure.

I have never worked with an impact wrench where you can set an angle (attribute that to my lack of experience), so I'd appreciate anybody who has such a contraption to tell me how it works.

Assuming that all the shops must have an impact wrench, and that in spite of that Volvo still makes the crank pulley locking tool, I wonder if there may be something wrong with using an impact wrench to tigthen the crank bolt.

Cheers, Kuba
