Oil Viscosity and Longevity 900 1995

I have read about using different viscosities and waiting longer between changes. Any opinions? I have been using Mobil 1 10w-30 in my 945T for about a year and everything seems fine, no leaks and great performance. I have been changing about every 6000 and that seems good except that at about 3500-4500 miles I need to add 1/2 to a 3/4 quart. Is this normal? On a different note, I bought some Forever Black for the rubber and plastic. It looks great, let's see how long it lasts.

Thanks
